Initial Training Session

When you have decided you would like to book your first session with me please either complete the ‘tell us more’ form (click below for the link) or ring me on 01547 510342. Completing the form will help me understand a lot more before we chat. I try to place new trainees as soon as possible. After that first session, we will look at the diary and decide when a follow up date can be arranged.

In nearly all cases I will suggest that the first session is a one to one so an assessment can be made regarding future training needs. We can also discuss if it is appropriate for you to join a group that is already meeting regularly and who you would enjoy training with. Groups are good fun and many friendships are made through them.

What Happens

Preparing for your first session

I will send you directions, and ask you to remember to bring your lead, and lots of very small soft treats, and a means of dispensing these treats to your dog without the complication of plastic boxes and polythene bags!! If you don’t have a treat bag a bum bag is good or the pocket of an old jacket or gilet that you can put the treats in. Your dog needs to be hungry so no huge breakfasts please.

What we do

Upon arrival we will have a chat about your dog, good and bad points, problems, any expectations, ambitions or goals you may have and so on.During this time your dog will be exploring the agility paddock which is fenced all round so there are no worries about any great escapes happening! Then you will put on the lead and the session will commence, obedience, good manners, leadwork etc., first. An introduction to agility will follow, looking at all the equipment and seeing how your dog reacts. Perhaps your dog will be persuaded to venture into a tunnel or up on to the A-frame. Every step will be taken slowly and gently, the dogs decide how much or little they want to do.

Coming back

Follow up sessions follow the same pattern, building up the dog’s knowledge and confidence.

Family are Welcome

Do include the family

Family members including children are all most welcome to join in your training sessions, they need to be involved if at all possible, this will help to avoid conflicting commands and the resulting confusion that this can cause your dog.
